報告題目: Scanning Probe Microscopy for Advanced Functional Materials: When Mechanics Meets “Big” Data

報告摘要:
Strain and electromechanical coupling are ubiquitous in nature, and exist in many processes involved in information technology, energy conversion, and biological phenomena. Strain-based scanning probe microscopy (s-SPM) techniques, especially piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM), have emerged as powerful tools to probe and manipulate materials, structures, and systems at the nanoscale. In this talk, we will present the fundamentals of s-SPM and a variety of its operational modes, introduce its applications in scientifically and technologically important functional materials, electrochemical systems, and biological structures, and discuss some of its challenges and potential opportunities. By detecting dynamic strains associated with underlying microscopic processes excited by a scanning probe, high sensitivity and unprecedented spatial resolution can be obtained, especially supported by statistic tools for advanced data analysis, though caution must be exercised to distinguish different microscopic mechanisms, and quantitative interpretation of remains challenging. We expect that s-SPM will continue to provide great insight into functional materials and structures, and will play a valuable role in the emerging field of materiomics.

李江宇教授畢業于清華大學材料科學與工程系,在美國科羅拉多大學獲得博士學位,曾在加州大學和加州理工學院從事博士后研究。長期致力于多功能智能材料與結構力學行為研究,共發表SCI論文近200篇,包括Science、Nature Materials、PNAS、PRL等國際頂級期刊,引用逾7000余次。研究成果得到Nature、Science等頂級期刊亮點顯示,美國物理學會、材料研究會、和英國皇家化學學會等專業組織專題報道,以及美國NBC電視臺、英國BBC廣播電臺和英國New Scientist雜志等大眾傳媒特約專訪。曾榮獲美國機械工程師協會SiaNemat-Nasser獎章、最佳論文獎、ICCES青年成就獎、以及美國華盛頓大學Bryan T. McMinn講座教授等榮譽。現擔任美國物理聯合會Journal of Applied Physics副主編、自然出版集團npj Computational Materials編委、中國硅酸鹽學會Journal of Materiomics編委、中力學學會Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters編委,和中國科學院Science China ?C Technological Science青年編委。
