Multiphase flow and turbulence

Multiphase flow is a traditional advantage research area of the Institute of Fluid Engineering. Early in 1989, the institute has held the International Multiphase Flow Conference.  In recent years, world advanced numerical methods have been proposed for studying of suspension flow of nano-particles, direct numerical simulation of multiphase flow, turbulent combustion, thermochemical transformation of biomass and cavitation flow. Some basic multiphase flow mechanisms have been revealed.


Hydrodynamics

The hydrodynamics team has made important progress in studying ship numerical pools, cavitation flow and bubble dynamics, bionic hydrodynamics, and energy collection of ocean currents. The ship resistance and propeller performance prediction program are developed. More researches are carried out in the study of the performance of open water propeller, ship resistance with free surface and ship resistance with self-propelled propeller. A cavitation tunnel with 200mmX200mm cross section has been built.


Microfluidics/nanofluidics

Including Microfluidics/nanofluidics, Lab-on-a-chip, Nanotoxicology, Biophysics, Numercial simulations


Fluid machinery and engineering

Fluid machinery and engineering is the traditional research field of the Institute of Fluid Engineering. In recent years, new research results have been proposed, such as the optimal design method of centrifugal fan based on speed distribution control and the design software; the simulation of complex flow within the network and the control, the optimal design of the new type of fluid control valve, and energy conservation and emissions reduction of fluid system in process industry. An intelligent control system is proposed for metallurgy, petrochemical, building materials and other large industrial fluid systems through theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, experimental research and optimization design.
